Pathanamthitta (പത്തനംതിട്ട) is an inland district in southern Kerala - Keralam, India, stretching from settled midland areas to the forested Western Ghats. It is known for the Sabarimala pilgrimage, the Pamba River and landscapes of hills, forests and farmland. Pathanamthitta town serves as the district headquarters.
Malayalam is the main language, and Hindu, Christian and Muslim communities contribute to local cultural life. Agriculture, trade, services and income from people working outside the district support the economy. Rubber cultivation is prominent. Notable places and traditions include the Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple, Aranmula’s metal mirrors and boat race, and the Maramon Convention, a major Christian gathering.
Common civic concerns include flood preparedness, river protection, waste management and reliable drinking water. Residents also care about road maintenance, public transport, healthcare access and local employment. Managing pilgrimage traffic and sanitation, while protecting forests and addressing human-wildlife conflict near forest edges, are recurring priorities.
