Udalguri (ওদালগুৰি) is a district in northern Assam, India, within the Bodoland Territorial Region. It borders Bhutan and lies along the Himalayan foothills, with plains stretching southwards. The district headquarters is Udalguri town. The area is known for tea gardens, farming landscapes, forests and its connections to Bodo cultural life.
Bodo, Assamese, Adivasi, Nepali-speaking and other communities contribute to the district’s multilingual character. Agriculture, tea production, small businesses and local services support livelihoods. Rice cultivation is important, while weaving and traditional festivals remain part of community life. Bhairabkunda, near the Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh borders, is a well-known scenic destination.
Common civic concerns include road maintenance, reliable drinking water, healthcare access and school facilities, particularly in rural areas. Flooding, riverbank erosion and human-elephant conflict affect some communities. Residents also care about employment opportunities, tea garden workers’ welfare, land rights and balancing forest conservation with farming and settlement needs.
