Suryapet (సూర్యాపేట) is a district in southeastern Telangana, India, with its headquarters in Suryapet town. Created in 2016 from the former Nalgonda district, it lies along the Hyderabad–Vijayawada transport corridor. The district is known for agriculture, trading centres and connections between Telangana and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Telugu is the main language, and festivals such as Bathukamma, Bonalu and Sankranti shape local cultural life. Farming, agricultural trade, services and cement manufacturing contribute to the economy. Paddy cultivation is important in irrigated areas. Notable places include the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Mattapalli and the historic temples at Pillalamarri.
Common civic concerns include dependable irrigation, drinking-water supply, road maintenance and access to healthcare and education. Residents also have a stake in fair crop prices, employment opportunities and industrial pollution control. In growing towns, drainage, waste collection, traffic management and orderly development are important issues, alongside protecting water bodies and improving public services in villages.
