Supaul (सुपौल) is a district in northeastern Bihar, India, bordering Nepal and forming part of the Kosi region. Its administrative headquarters is Supaul town. The district is closely associated with the Kosi River, which supports farming but also brings recurrent flooding and changes to the landscape.
Agriculture is central to the local economy, with rice, wheat and maize among the crops grown. Trade, small businesses and income from migrant workers also support households. Maithili and Hindi are widely spoken, and festivals such as Chhath shape community life. The Kosi Barrage near Birpur is a prominent regional landmark, reflecting the importance of water management and cross-border connections.
Residents commonly care about flood protection, embankment maintenance, drainage and disaster preparedness. Reliable roads, healthcare, schools and electricity are important everyday priorities. Agricultural support, local employment and access to public services also feature prominently, particularly in rural communities affected by seasonal flooding.
