Sitapur (सीतापुर) is a district in central Uttar Pradesh, India, north of Lucknow. Its administrative headquarters is Sitapur city. Part of the fertile Gangetic plain, the district is known for agriculture and Naimisharanya, an important Hindu pilgrimage centre associated with ancient religious traditions.
Hindi and Awadhi are widely spoken, and local life reflects the festivals, food and customs of the Awadh region. Farming supports much of the economy, with crops such as wheat, rice and sugarcane, alongside trade, services and agricultural processing. Naimisharanya’s Chakra Tirth and temples draw pilgrims, while Sitapur city serves as a commercial and administrative hub for surrounding towns and villages.
Common civic concerns include rural roads, reliable electricity, drinking water, sanitation and access to healthcare and schools. Farmers care about irrigation, crop prices and timely payments. Flood preparedness in riverine areas, employment opportunities, and managing cleanliness and facilities at pilgrimage sites are also relevant local issues.
