Simdega (सिमडेगा) is a district in southwestern Jharkhand, India, bordering Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Its administrative headquarters is Simdega town. Known for its wooded hills, rural landscapes and strong hockey tradition, the district has produced players who have represented India at national and international levels.
Adivasi communities, including the Munda, Kharia and Oraon, shape much of Simdega’s cultural life through their languages, festivals, music and dance. Agriculture, forest-linked livelihoods, small businesses and public services support the local economy. Rice is an important crop, while local markets connect villages with the district town. Kelaghagh Dam and Ramrekha Dham are prominent places associated with recreation and religious visits.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road connectivity, healthcare and access to quality education. Residents also have a stake in land and forest rights, employment opportunities and effective delivery of welfare services. Sports facilities and support for young hockey players are especially relevant local priorities.
