Sheohar (शिवहर) is a district in northern Bihar, India, with its headquarters in Sheohar town. Among Bihar’s smaller districts, it lies in the plains of the Bagmati river basin, near Sitamarhi and East Champaran. The area is known for its agricultural landscape, rural settlements and vulnerability to seasonal flooding.
Most residents live in villages, and farming, agricultural labour and small businesses support the local economy. Rice, wheat and other seasonal crops are grown in the district. Hindi and regional languages shape everyday communication, while festivals such as Chhath, Holi and Eid are part of community life. The Deokuli temple complex is a notable local religious landmark.
Common civic concerns include flood protection, drainage, reliable roads and access to healthcare and education. Farmers value irrigation, affordable inputs and better market access. Employment opportunities, dependable electricity, clean drinking water and effective delivery of public services are also important priorities for residents.
