Sheikhpura (शेखपुरा) is a district in Bihar, eastern India, with its administrative headquarters in Sheikhpura town. One of Bihar’s smaller districts, it lies in the southern part of the state and is known for its agricultural landscape, rocky hills and settlements such as Barbigha.
Most residents live in rural communities, where farming, agricultural labour and small businesses support livelihoods. Hindi and Magahi are commonly spoken, and festivals such as Chhath, Holi and Eid shape community life. Sheikhpura and Barbigha serve as local centres for trade, education and services. The Girihinda hill and its Shiva temple are notable local landmarks.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation, drinking water, road maintenance, drainage and waste collection. Access to quality schools, healthcare and employment is also important, particularly for young people and rural households. Residents may also focus on transport connections, the delivery of public benefits and balancing development with protection of local land and water resources.
