Sant Kabir Nagar (संत कबीर नगर) is a district in eastern Uttar Pradesh, India, with its administrative headquarters at Khalilabad. Named after the poet-saint Kabir, it is known for its association with his teachings and with Maghar, a pilgrimage destination linked to his final years.
The district is predominantly rural, with agriculture, small businesses and local trade supporting livelihoods. Hindi and Bhojpuri are widely spoken, and cultural life reflects the traditions of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Maghar’s Kabir memorial complex, which includes a samadhi and a mausoleum, draws visitors from different faiths and embodies Kabir’s message of harmony beyond religious divisions. Khalilabad serves as an important market and transport centre.
Common civic concerns include road maintenance, drainage, sanitation, reliable electricity and access to healthcare and education. Farmers care about irrigation, crop prices and flood-related risks. Employment opportunities, public service delivery and the upkeep of pilgrimage sites also matter to residents.
