Sangrur (ਸੰਗਰੂਰ) is a district in Punjab, India, in the state’s Malwa region. Its administrative headquarters is Sangrur city. Known for its agricultural landscape and strong connections to Punjabi public life, the district has market towns and villages closely linked to farming. Wheat and paddy are major crops.
Punjabi is widely spoken, and Sikh traditions, religious gatherings, fairs and festivals shape much of local cultural life. Farming, agricultural trade, rice milling, small industries and services support the economy. Sangrur city’s Banasar Bagh and buildings associated with the former princely state of Jind reflect its heritage. Sunam is associated with freedom fighter Udham Singh.
Common civic concerns include groundwater depletion, crop diversification, stubble burning and farm incomes. Residents also care about reliable roads, drainage, drinking water, sanitation and access to healthcare and education. Employment opportunities for young people, drug prevention and treatment, and the upkeep of public spaces are important local priorities.
