Ramgarh (रामगढ़) is a district in Jharkhand, eastern India, with its headquarters in Ramgarh town. Located northeast of Ranchi in the Damodar valley, it is known for coal mining, industrial activity and its cantonment. The district was formed in 2007 from part of Hazaribagh district.
Its towns and villages bring together tribal communities and people from varied linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Hindi and regional languages are widely spoken, while festivals, markets and religious gatherings shape community life. Coal mining, power generation, industry, farming and trade support livelihoods. Notable landmarks include the Chhinnamastika Temple at Rajrappa, near the meeting of the Damodar and Bhairavi rivers, and Patratu’s reservoir and surrounding hills.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, road maintenance, healthcare, education and employment. Mining-related pollution, land use and rehabilitation are important local issues. Residents also have a stake in waste management, safer transport and balancing industrial development with protection of rivers, forests and agricultural land.
