Pratapgarh (प्रतापगढ़) is a district in southeastern Uttar Pradesh, India, in the Prayagraj division. Its administrative headquarters is in Pratapgarh town, also known as Bela Pratapgarh. The district is particularly known for amla, or Indian gooseberry, cultivation and processing, which connect its agricultural identity with local trade and food products.
Much of the population lives in villages, with livelihoods centred on farming, small businesses and services. Hindi and Awadhi are widely spoken, and local culture reflects the traditions of the wider Awadh region. Religious festivals, fairs and weekly markets bring communities together. Notable landmarks include the Bela Bhawani temple and the Bhayaharannath Dham temple.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation, fair crop prices, agricultural storage and better market access. Residents also care about road maintenance, drainage, drinking water, electricity, sanitation and access to schools and healthcare. Employment opportunities for young people and dependable public services are important priorities across the district’s towns and villages.
