Nalgonda (నల్గొండ) is a district in southern Telangana, India, with its headquarters in Nalgonda town. It is known for its agricultural landscapes, historic sites and association with the Nagarjuna Sagar irrigation project on the Krishna River. The district has strong connections to the wider Hyderabad region.
Telugu is the main language, and local culture reflects Telangana’s festivals, food and rural traditions. Farming, agricultural trade, small businesses and services support livelihoods, with paddy and cotton among important crops. Notable landmarks include Nagarjuna Sagar Dam and the temples at Yadadri’s neighbouring district boundary region, while Nalgonda town serves as an administrative and commercial centre.
Residents commonly focus on reliable drinking water, irrigation, roads, public transport, healthcare and education. Fluoride contamination in groundwater has been a longstanding public health concern in parts of the district. Other civic priorities include agricultural incomes, employment opportunities, sanitation and balancing infrastructure development with the needs of rural communities.
