Nagarkurnool (నాగర్కర్నూల్) is a district in southern Telangana, India, with its administrative headquarters in Nagarkurnool town. Created in 2016 from the former Mahabubnagar district, it is known for its rural landscapes, agricultural communities and the forested Nallamala hills. Its eastern reaches include parts of the Amrabad Tiger Reserve, an important wildlife habitat.
Telugu is the main language, and local life reflects Telangana’s festivals, village traditions and religious gatherings. Chenchu communities have longstanding ties to the Nallamala forests. Farming, agricultural labour, livestock rearing and small businesses support much of the economy. Notable destinations include Uma Maheshwaram temple near Achampet and the Krishna River landscape around Somasila.
Residents commonly care about reliable irrigation and drinking water, farm incomes, employment, roads and access to healthcare and education. In forest areas, conservation, livelihoods and tribal welfare are closely connected civic concerns. Public transport, sanitation and dependable public services also matter across the district’s towns and villages.
