Mancherial (మంచిర్యాల) is a district in northern Telangana, India, with its administrative headquarters in Mancherial town. Located in the Godavari river basin, it is known for coal mining, power generation and agriculture. The district was formed in 2016 during Telangana’s reorganisation of districts.
Telugu is widely spoken, and local culture reflects Telangana’s festivals, food and traditions, including Bathukamma and Bonalu. Farming communities, industrial workers and traders contribute to the district’s economy. Singareni coal mines and the Jaipur thermal power plant are major industrial anchors, while agriculture and local commerce support many livelihoods. The Godavari river, forest areas and Gandhari Fort near Mandamarri are notable features of its landscape and heritage.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, drainage, road maintenance and access to healthcare and education. Residents also care about employment, mine-worker welfare, industrial pollution and land affected by mining. Irrigation, flood preparedness and balancing industrial development with environmental protection are important district-wide issues.
