Komaram Bheem Asifabad (కొమరం భీం ఆసిఫాబాద్) is a district in northern Telangana, India, bordering Maharashtra. Its headquarters is Asifabad. Named after Gond leader Komaram Bheem, it is known for its forested landscapes, tribal heritage and connections to struggles over land, forests and community rights.
The district is home to Gond and other Adivasi communities, alongside Telugu-, Marathi- and Urdu-speaking residents. Agriculture, forest-based livelihoods, trade and industries around Kagaznagar support the local economy. Cotton and food crops are important to farming households. Jodeghat, associated with Komaram Bheem’s life and resistance, is a prominent memorial site. Seasonal festivals and local markets reflect the district’s varied cultural traditions.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road connectivity, healthcare and access to schools in remote settlements. Residents also care about farm incomes, employment, tribal land and forest rights, and public services. Forest conservation and reducing conflict between wildlife and nearby communities are important local priorities.
