Kanpur Dehat (कानपुर देहात) is a district in central Uttar Pradesh, India, west of Kanpur city. Its administrative headquarters is at Mati. Often associated with the rural hinterland of Kanpur, the district is known for its agricultural landscape, market towns and links to the wider Kanpur region.
Farming supports much of the local economy, alongside trade, small businesses and industrial activity around centres such as Rania and Jainpur. Wheat and rice are among the crops grown here. Hindi is widely spoken, with local speech reflecting the region’s linguistic traditions. Festivals, village fairs and religious gatherings shape community life. Pukhrayan and Jhinjhak are important towns, while temples and other local heritage sites serve as community landmarks.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation and electricity, road maintenance, drainage, drinking water and sanitation. Residents also have a stake in accessible healthcare, school quality, employment opportunities and transport connections between villages, district offices and Kanpur city.
