Kaimur (Bhabua), locally written as कैमूर (भभुआ), is a district in western Bihar, India, bordering Uttar Pradesh. Its headquarters is Bhabua. Named for the Kaimur hills, the district combines cultivated plains with forested uplands and is known for its natural scenery, religious sites and historical heritage.
Bhojpuri and Hindi are widely spoken, and local culture reflects the traditions of western Bihar. Farming, agricultural trade and small businesses support much of the economy, with rice and wheat among the important crops. Bhabua is an administrative and commercial centre, while Mohania is a transport hub. Notable landmarks include the Mundeshwari Temple near Bhagwanpur and the hills and habitats of Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation, road maintenance, drinking water, sanitation, electricity and access to schools and healthcare. Residents also care about local employment, transport connections and public services in remote hill settlements. Forest conservation and wildlife protection must be balanced with surrounding communities’ livelihoods.
