Jayashankar Bhoopalpally (జయశంకర్ భూపాలపల్లి) is a district in northeastern Telangana, India, with its headquarters at Bhupalpally. Named after Telangana statehood advocate Professor K. Jayashankar, it is known for coal mining, agriculture, forests and its setting along the Godavari river.
Telugu is the main language, and local culture includes Telangana festivals such as Bathukamma and Bonalu, alongside diverse tribal traditions. Farming, Singareni coal operations, trade and public services support livelihoods. Kaleshwaram, where the Pranahita meets the Godavari, is an important pilgrimage centre, known for the Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy Temple. River landscapes and forest areas also shape the district’s identity.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation and drinking water, road connectivity, healthcare and access to education in rural and tribal settlements. Residents also have a stake in mining-related employment, worker safety, pollution control and land use. Flood preparedness near rivers, agricultural support and balancing development with forest conservation are important local priorities.
