Hoshiarpur (ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰਪੁਰ) is a district in northeastern Punjab, India, in the Doaba region between the Beas and Sutlej rivers. Its administrative headquarters is Hoshiarpur city. Stretching from agricultural plains toward the Shivalik foothills, the district is known for farming, wood inlay craftsmanship and connections with Punjabi communities overseas.
Punjabi is the main local language, and Sikh and Hindu traditions shape much of the district’s cultural life. Agriculture, small businesses, manufacturing and remittances support the economy. Wheat, rice and sugarcane are important crops. Notable places include the archaeological site at Dholbaha and Takhni-Rehmapur Wildlife Sanctuary, while religious sites and local fairs draw residents and visitors.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, drainage, waste collection and road maintenance across towns and villages. Residents also care about employment opportunities, healthcare, education and support for farmers. Groundwater conservation, seasonal flooding and protecting forests and wildlife in the foothills are important environmental topics.
