Hapur (हापुड़) is a district in western Uttar Pradesh, India, within the National Capital Region. Created in 2011 from part of Ghaziabad district, it was initially named Panchsheel Nagar before being renamed Hapur. Its headquarters, Hapur city, is known as a trading centre for agricultural produce and manufactured goods.
The district includes farming communities, market towns and growing urban neighbourhoods. Hindi is widely spoken, alongside Urdu and regional varieties of speech. Agriculture, grain trading, paper-related industries and small businesses contribute to the economy. Pilkhuwa is known for handloom textiles and printed home furnishings. Garhmukteshwar and nearby Brijghat, on the Ganga, are important pilgrimage destinations, drawing visitors for religious bathing and festivals.
Common civic concerns include road maintenance, traffic congestion, drainage, sanitation and reliable water and electricity supplies. Residents also care about schools, healthcare, employment and agricultural services. Managing urban growth, protecting the Ganga from pollution and improving transport connections are continuing priorities.
