Hamirpur (हमीरपुर) is a district in southern Uttar Pradesh, in India’s Bundelkhand region. Its headquarters, Hamirpur town, lies near the meeting of the Yamuna and Betwa rivers. The district is known for its river landscapes, agricultural countryside and strong Bundelkhand identity.
Hindi and Bundeli are widely spoken, and local culture reflects Bundelkhand’s folk traditions, religious festivals and rural community life. Farming and livestock support many households, with wheat, pulses and oilseeds among important crops. Trade, small businesses and industry around Sumerpur also contribute to the economy. Hamirpur’s riverfront, local temples and the historic town of Rath are notable features.
Residents commonly care about reliable drinking water, irrigation and the effects of drought and extreme summer heat. Other civic priorities include roads, public transport, healthcare, schools and employment opportunities for young people. River flooding, sanitation and the environmental effects of sand mining are also relevant concerns in parts of the district.
