Gautam Buddha Nagar (गौतम बुद्ध नगर) is a district in western Uttar Pradesh, within India’s National Capital Region, adjoining Delhi. Its headquarters is at Greater Noida. Named after Gautama Buddha, the district is best known for Noida and Greater Noida, major centres of planned urban development, industry and services.
The population includes long-established village communities and residents drawn from across India for work and education. Hindi is widely spoken, alongside other languages. Information technology, electronics manufacturing, real estate, retail and educational institutions shape the economy, while agriculture remains important in rural areas. Notable places include Gautam Buddha University, the India Expo Centre and Mart, and the Okhla Bird Sanctuary.
Common civic concerns include traffic congestion, public transport connections, air pollution, water supply, drainage and waste management. Residents also focus on housing delivery, apartment maintenance, road safety and access to schools and healthcare. Rapid development makes land acquisition, farmer compensation and wetland protection recurring public issues.
