Fazilka (ਫਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ) is a district in southwestern Punjab, India, along the border with Pakistan. Its headquarters is Fazilka town. Known for its agricultural landscape and borderland heritage, the district includes Abohar and Jalalabad, important centres for trade and services.
Punjabi language and culture shape everyday life, with farming, seasonal festivals and local markets bringing communities together. Agriculture drives much of the economy: cotton, wheat and paddy are major crops, while the Abohar area is particularly associated with kinnow orchards. Notable places include Fazilka’s clock tower, the Sadqi border crossing and the Abohar Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its blackbuck population and community-supported conservation.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation, groundwater quality, drainage and flood protection, especially in villages near the Sutlej. Residents also care about crop prices, orchard support, employment opportunities, healthcare, schools and road connectivity. In towns, sanitation, waste collection and dependable water supplies are recurring priorities.
