Faridkot (ਫਰੀਦਕੋਟ) is a district in southwestern Punjab, India, with its administrative headquarters in Faridkot city. Part of the Malwa region, it is known for its agricultural landscape, princely-state heritage and association with the Sufi saint Baba Farid, whose name the city bears.
Punjabi is the main language, and Sikh traditions and Baba Farid’s spiritual legacy shape local cultural life. Farming, particularly wheat and paddy cultivation, supports the economy alongside trade, services and agricultural businesses. Faridkot city is an important medical education centre, home to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. Notable heritage sites include Qila Mubarak and Raj Mahal, while Kotkapura and Jaitu are other significant towns in the district.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, drainage, sanitation, road maintenance and accessible healthcare. Residents also care about farm incomes, groundwater use, crop-residue management and employment opportunities for young people. Preserving historic buildings while improving public services is another local priority.
