Chandauli (चंदौली) is a district in eastern Uttar Pradesh, bordering Bihar and lying near Varanasi. The Ganga runs along part of its northern boundary, while its southern areas extend into the Vindhyan hills. Known for rice cultivation, the district combines fertile agricultural plains with wooded uplands.
Hindi and Bhojpuri are widely spoken, and village life, seasonal festivals and local markets shape its cultural identity. Farming, agricultural trade and transport support the economy. Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar, formerly Mughalsarai, is an important railway centre. Notable places include the Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary and the Rajdari and Devdari waterfalls, which draw visitors to the district’s southern landscape.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation, crop prices, rural roads, drainage and access to healthcare and education. Residents also care about jobs, railway-area infrastructure and dependable public services. Flood preparedness in riverine areas and balancing tourism with forest and wildlife protection are important local issues.
