Bhojpur (भोजपुर) is a district in western Bihar, India, with its headquarters at Ara, also spelled Arrah. Part of the fertile middle Gangetic plain, it lies south of the Ganga and west of the Son River. The district is known for its Bhojpuri-speaking heritage, agriculture and association with the uprising of 1857.
Bhojpuri and Hindi are widely spoken, while folk songs, seasonal festivals and Chhath shape cultural life. Farming, local trade, services and small enterprises support livelihoods, with rice and wheat among the main crops. Notable landmarks include sites linked to freedom fighter Veer Kunwar Singh at Jagdishpur and the historic Arrah House in Ara.
Common civic concerns include reliable roads, drainage, sanitation, drinking water and electricity. Residents also care about access to schools and healthcare, irrigation, crop markets and local employment. Flood preparedness in riverine areas, public transport and effective delivery of government services are important district-level issues.
