Auraiya (औरैया) is a district in western Uttar Pradesh, India, in the Kanpur division. Its headquarters is Auraiya town. Located near the Yamuna River, the district combines agricultural countryside with industrial centres and road connections to Kanpur, Etawah and other regional markets.
Hindi is widely spoken, alongside local speech associated with the surrounding region. Farming, small businesses, trade and industrial employment support livelihoods. Wheat and other seasonal crops are important to agriculture. Dibiyapur is a notable industrial centre, associated with gas processing and power generation. Temples, local markets and riverbank sites form part of the district’s cultural landscape, while festivals and fairs bring communities together.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, drainage, road maintenance and sanitation. Residents also have stakes in irrigation, farm prices, electricity supply, healthcare and education. Employment opportunities for young people, industrial pollution, transport access and flood preparedness in river-adjacent areas are other important local issues.
