Amroha (अमरोहा), formerly known as Jyotiba Phule Nagar or J.P. Nagar, is a district in western Uttar Pradesh, India. Its administrative headquarters is Amroha city. Located in the agricultural belt east of the Ganga, the district is known for mangoes, farming and traditional crafts, particularly the making of dholaks and other percussion instruments.
Hindi and Urdu contribute to local cultural life, alongside religious festivals, poetry and craft traditions. Agriculture, small manufacturing and trade support livelihoods, with sugarcane and other crops important to the rural economy. Amroha’s historic mosques and shrines, including the shrine of Shah Wilayat, are notable landmarks. Gajraula is an important industrial and transport centre within the district.
Common civic concerns include road maintenance, drainage, waste collection and reliable drinking water. Residents also care about healthcare, school quality, employment and support for farmers and artisans. Industrial pollution, groundwater quality and flood preparedness near the Ganga are additional local priorities.
