Ambedkar Nagar (अंबेडकर नगर) is a district in eastern Uttar Pradesh, India, with its administrative headquarters at Akbarpur. Named after B. R. Ambedkar, it was created in 1995 from part of Faizabad district. The district is known for its agricultural landscape, weaving traditions and industrial activity around Tanda.
Hindi and Awadhi are widely spoken, and local life reflects the festivals, markets and religious traditions of the wider Awadh region. Farming, trade and textile production support many livelihoods. Tanda is an important powerloom centre, while its thermal power station is a major industrial landmark. The Kichhauchha Sharif shrine is a prominent pilgrimage destination that draws visitors from beyond the district.
Common civic concerns include reliable electricity, road maintenance, drainage, drinking water and access to healthcare and education. Farmers depend on irrigation and market access, while weaving households need affordable power and stable demand. Employment opportunities, sanitation and flood preparedness in vulnerable areas also matter to residents.
