Yadgir (ಯಾದಗಿರಿ) is a district in northeastern Karnataka, India, in the Kalyana Karnataka region. Its headquarters is Yadgir town. The district was carved out of Kalaburagi district in 2009. Known for its historic fort and largely agricultural landscape, it includes areas shaped by the Krishna and Bhima rivers.
Kannada is widely spoken, alongside Urdu and other regional languages. Local culture reflects the wider Deccan’s traditions, with religious festivals, markets and village fairs bringing communities together. Agriculture and related trade support much of the economy, with crops including pulses, cotton and paddy where irrigation is available. Yadgir Fort, Shahapur’s hill landscape and religious sites are notable local landmarks.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, drought resilience and farm incomes. Residents also care about roads, public transport, sanitation, healthcare and the quality of schools. Employment opportunities, skills training and access to government services are important across both towns and rural settlements.
