West Siang is a district in Arunachal Pradesh, northeastern India, with its headquarters at Aalo, also known as Along. Set among forested hills and river valleys, it is known for its scenic landscapes, farming traditions and Galo cultural heritage. The Siyom River is a prominent feature of the area.
Galo communities shape much of local life through their languages, customary institutions, weaving and festivals such as Mopin. Agriculture, horticulture, small businesses and government services support the economy. Aalo serves as an administrative and trading centre, while surrounding villages, traditional houses and river crossings reflect the district’s relationship with its terrain.
Common civic concerns include reliable roads, especially during heavy rains, access to healthcare and education, and dependable electricity, drinking water and mobile connectivity. Residents also have a stake in livelihood opportunities for young people, waste management in growing settlements, and balancing infrastructure development with protection of forests, rivers and community land.
