Valsad (વલસાડ) is a coastal district in southern Gujarat, India, bordering Maharashtra and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Its headquarters is Valsad city. The district is known for mango orchards, especially Alphonso mangoes, the industrial centre of Vapi, and beaches along the Arabian Sea.
Gujarati is widely spoken, and tribal communities contribute significantly to the district’s cultural life, particularly in its eastern, hilly areas. Farming, horticulture, manufacturing and trade support the economy. Vapi’s chemical and other manufacturing industries are major employers. Tithal Beach, with its temples and seaside setting, is a prominent local destination, while Dharampur is known for its former princely heritage.
Common civic concerns include industrial pollution, clean drinking water, waste management and reliable roads. Residents also care about coastal protection, monsoon flooding, public transport and access to healthcare and education, especially in rural and tribal areas. Balancing industrial employment with environmental protection is an important district-wide issue.
