Una (ऊना) is a district in southwestern Himachal Pradesh, India, bordering Punjab. Its administrative headquarters is Una town. Set largely in the lower Himalayan foothills, the district serves as a gateway between the Punjab plains and Himachal’s hill regions. It is known for pilgrimage sites, farming and growing industrial activity.
Daily life reflects both Himachali and Punjabi influences, visible in local speech, food, festivals and community traditions. Agriculture, trade, services and manufacturing support livelihoods, with industrial activity around Tahliwal and adjoining areas. Chintpurni temple is a major pilgrimage destination, while Dera Baba Barbhag Singh at Mairi is another important religious landmark.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance, public transport and access to healthcare and education. Residents also care about employment opportunities, industrial pollution, waste management and balanced development. Seasonal flooding and drainage, especially near streams and the Swan River, make flood protection and responsible land use important district-level issues.
