Tikamgarh (टीकमगढ़) is a district in northern Madhya Pradesh, in the Bundelkhand region of central India, bordering Uttar Pradesh. Its headquarters is Tikamgarh town. The district is known for its Bundela heritage, historic temples, traditional water bodies and agricultural landscape.
Hindi and Bundeli are widely spoken, and local culture reflects Bundelkhand’s folk traditions, festivals and religious life. Farming, livestock rearing, small businesses and public services support livelihoods, with wheat, pulses and oilseeds among the crops grown. Tikamgarh town’s historic fort and nearby Kundeshwar Shiva temple are notable landmarks. Weekly markets connect rural communities with traders and essential goods.
Residents’ civic concerns commonly include reliable drinking water, irrigation, groundwater conservation and maintaining ponds. Other priorities include rural roads, sanitation, healthcare access, school facilities and dependable electricity. Employment opportunities, support for farmers and managing seasonal water scarcity are important development issues, alongside preserving historic sites and improving services across villages and towns.
