Thoubal (থৌবাল) is a district in the central valley of Manipur, in northeastern India. Its headquarters is Thoubal town, southeast of Imphal. The district is known for its agricultural landscape, busy markets and settlements linked by the Thoubal River and important road routes.
Meitei communities form a major part of the population, alongside Meitei Pangal and other communities. Local life reflects Manipuri language, festivals, sports and traditions of weaving and handicrafts. Rice cultivation, fishing, small businesses and trade support livelihoods. Khongjom, associated with the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, is a significant historic site, commemorated by the Khongjom War Memorial.
Common civic concerns include flood protection, drainage, road maintenance, waste management and reliable drinking water. Residents also care about healthcare, school quality, youth employment and support for farmers and small traders. Public safety, social harmony and dependable access to essential services remain important amid Manipur’s wider challenges.
