Tengnoupal (তেংনোপল) is a hill district in southeastern Manipur, India, bordering Myanmar. Its headquarters is Tengnoupal town. The district is known for its forested hills, strategic border location and the trading town of Moreh, an important gateway between India and Myanmar.
The population includes Kuki-Zo communities, Nagas and other groups, with varied languages, customary institutions and religious traditions. Farming, small businesses, transport and border-related commerce support livelihoods, though insecurity and border restrictions can disrupt economic activity. Moreh and the nearby India–Myanmar border crossing are prominent places, while villages and hill landscapes shape much of the district’s character.
Common civic concerns include peace and public safety, reliable road connections, healthcare, schools and access to essential supplies. Residents also have a stake in land rights, forest protection, livelihood opportunities and fair access to public services. Border management, disrupted trade and assistance for people affected by conflict are particularly significant issues.
