Surendranagar (સુરેન્દ્રનગર) is a district in Gujarat, India, spanning much of the historic Zhalawad region of Saurashtra and reaching toward the Little Rann of Kutch. Its administrative headquarters is Surendranagar city. The district is known for cotton, salt production and landscapes shaped by a dry climate.
Gujarati is the main language, and local life reflects Saurashtra’s food, festivals and craft traditions. Agriculture, cotton processing, ceramics and salt-related work support the economy. Thangadh is associated with ceramic manufacturing, while Tarnetar’s Trinetreshwar Mahadev temple and annual fair are prominent cultural attractions. Dhrangadhra has a historic royal heritage, and the Little Rann supports distinctive wildlife and salt-working communities.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, groundwater quality and drought resilience. Residents also care about roads, sanitation, healthcare, education and employment. Industrial pollution, working conditions for salt workers, and balancing livelihoods with conservation around the Little Rann are important public issues.
