South East Delhi (दक्षिण पूर्वी दिल्ली) is a district in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, India, along the western side of the Yamuna. It includes neighbourhoods such as Kalkaji, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar and Okhla, bringing together residential colonies, busy markets, industrial areas and important heritage sites.
The district’s communities reflect Delhi’s varied linguistic, religious and regional backgrounds. Retail, small businesses, manufacturing, education and services support its economy. Lajpat Nagar’s markets are major shopping destinations, while Okhla is associated with industry and Jamia Millia Islamia. Prominent landmarks include the Lotus Temple, Kalkaji Mandir and the historic Humayun’s Tomb complex. These places draw worshippers, students, visitors and tourists.
Common civic concerns include traffic congestion, parking, air pollution, waste collection and reliable water supplies. Residents also care about drainage during the monsoon, pedestrian safety, public transport connections and maintaining neighbourhood parks. Yamuna pollution and equitable access to public services are wider local priorities.
