Sirmaur (Sirmour), locally written सिरमौर, is a district in southeastern Himachal Pradesh, India, with its headquarters at Nahan. Bordering Uttarakhand and Haryana, it stretches from the Shivalik foothills to higher Himalayan ridges. The district is known for its varied landscapes, Renuka Lake, and the Churdhar peak and pilgrimage route.
Most residents live in rural communities, where farming, horticulture, and livestock support livelihoods. Local Pahari traditions, fairs, music, and religious festivals shape cultural life. Nahan is a historic hill town, while Paonta Sahib is an important Sikh pilgrimage centre associated with Guru Gobind Singh. Industry around Paonta Sahib and Kala Amb, alongside tourism and trade, also contributes to the economy.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, road maintenance, access to healthcare and schools, and employment opportunities. Landslides and monsoon damage can disrupt travel. Residents also have a stake in forest conservation, waste management, industrial pollution control, and balancing development with protection of water sources and mountain landscapes.
