Singrauli (सिंगरौली) is a district in northeastern Madhya Pradesh, India, bordering Uttar Pradesh. Its administrative headquarters is at Waidhan. Known as a major coal-mining and electricity-generation centre, the district forms part of the wider Singrauli energy region, which extends across the state boundary.
The population includes urban industrial communities, rural households and tribal communities. Hindi is widely spoken, alongside regional speech varieties. Farming, mining, power generation, transport and local trade support livelihoods. Migration for industrial work has added to the area’s cultural mix. The Rihand reservoir, also known as Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar, is a prominent feature of the surrounding landscape.
Common civic concerns include air pollution, water quality, mine-related displacement and fair rehabilitation. Residents also care about local employment, workplace safety, reliable public services and road conditions, particularly where heavy vehicles operate. Access to healthcare and education, protection of forests and farmland, and balancing industrial growth with environmental safeguards remain important public issues.
