Sheopur (श्योपुर) is a district in northwestern Madhya Pradesh, bordering Rajasthan. Its administrative headquarters is Sheopur town. The district is known for its forests, agricultural landscapes and Kuno National Park, a major wildlife destination associated with India’s cheetah reintroduction programme.
Agriculture supports much of the local economy, alongside livestock rearing, trade and forest-based livelihoods. The population includes Sahariya tribal communities, whose traditions form an important part of the district’s cultural life. Hindi and local speech varieties are widely used, with cultural influences from neighbouring Rajasthan. Sheopur Fort and the district’s rivers and forest areas are notable features of its heritage and landscape.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road connectivity, healthcare and access to education. Nutrition, livelihoods and public services in tribal and remote settlements are especially important issues. Residents also have a stake in wildlife conservation, human–wildlife coexistence and ensuring that tourism creates sustainable local employment.
