Sepahijala (সিপাহীজলা) is a district in western Tripura, India, bordering Bangladesh. Its district headquarters is at Bishramganj. It is known for Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, a wooded landscape with lakes, a zoo and wildlife including primates. The district combines small towns, villages, farmland and forested areas.
Bengali-speaking communities and Indigenous Tripuri communities contribute to its languages, festivals, food and crafts. Agriculture, rubber cultivation, trade and services support local livelihoods. Bishalgarh and Sonamura are important towns. Neermahal, the former royal palace in Rudrasagar Lake near Melaghar, is a prominent landmark and visitor attraction. Cross-border commerce also shapes parts of the local economy.
Common civic concerns include reliable roads and public transport, drinking water, sanitation, healthcare and access to education. Residents also have stakes in employment opportunities, agricultural support and flood preparedness in vulnerable areas. Protecting forests and wetlands, managing tourism responsibly and improving services across rural and urban communities are important local priorities.
