Seoni (सिवनी) is a district in southern Madhya Pradesh, India, with its administrative headquarters in Seoni town. Set amid the Satpura hills, it is known for forests, farming landscapes and wildlife. Part of Pench Tiger Reserve lies within the district, making nature tourism an important part of its identity.
The population includes rural farming communities, townspeople and tribal communities, notably Gond people. Hindi is widely spoken, alongside local speech varieties and tribal languages. Agriculture supports much of the economy, with crops such as maize, paddy and pulses, while trade, services and tourism provide other livelihoods. Pench’s forests and the Wainganga River, which rises in the district, are notable natural features.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance, healthcare and school access, especially in remote villages. Residents also care about agricultural markets, employment and public transport. Forest conservation, human–wildlife conflict and ensuring that tourism benefits nearby communities are important local issues.
