Senapati (সেনাপতি) is a hill district in northern Manipur, India, bordering Nagaland. Its headquarters is Senapati town, an important centre on the road linking Imphal with Nagaland. The district is known for its forested hills, river valleys and villages with strong community traditions.
Several Naga communities, including Mao, Maram, Poumai and Thangal, shape the district’s cultural life. Local languages, customary institutions, churches, festivals and traditional crafts remain important. Farming, small businesses and trade support many livelihoods, while Senapati town provides markets and public services. Places associated with the district include the historic village of Maram Khullen and the landscapes around Mao.
Common civic concerns include road maintenance, reliable electricity, drinking water, healthcare and access to education in remote settlements. Residents also care about employment opportunities, agricultural support and better connectivity. Land and forest management, customary rights, local governance and peaceful relations among communities are important subjects in public life.
