Sawai Madhopur (सवाई माधोपुर) is a district in southeastern Rajasthan, India, with its headquarters in the city of the same name. It is best known for Ranthambore National Park, a major tiger habitat and wildlife tourism destination. Its landscape includes hills, forests and agricultural plains.
Communities across the district speak Hindi and regional Rajasthani varieties, with local traditions reflected in fairs, festivals and crafts. Agriculture, livestock rearing, tourism and small businesses support livelihoods. Ranthambore Fort, part of UNESCO’s Hill Forts of Rajasthan World Heritage listing, is a prominent landmark. The Trinetra Ganesh temple within the fort attracts many pilgrims.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance, sanitation and access to healthcare and education in rural areas. Residents also have a stake in tourism-related employment, forest conservation and managing human–wildlife conflict. Balancing visitor activity with local needs and protecting water resources are important district-level priorities.
