Samba (सांबा) is a district in the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Its headquarters is Samba town, southeast of Jammu city along the main highway towards Kathua and Punjab. Stretching from the Shivalik foothills to plains near the international border with Pakistan, the district is known for its Dogra heritage, agriculture and industrial activity.
Dogri language and traditions shape local life, alongside Hindi and other languages. Farming, trade, services and manufacturing support livelihoods, with industrial estates around Samba and Bari Brahmana serving as important employment centres. Samba Fort, Purmandal’s temples and the Baba Chamliyal shrine are notable heritage and religious sites. Festivals, local markets and family networks sustain community life.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, road maintenance, drainage, healthcare and education. Residents also care about jobs, industrial pollution, waste management and support for farmers. In border villages, security, emergency preparedness and access to essential services are particularly important.
