Rajouri (राजौरी) is a district in the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Its administrative headquarters is Rajouri town. Set among the hills and valleys south of the Pir Panjal range, the district is known for its mountain scenery, farming communities and strategic location along the Line of Control with Pakistan-administered territory.
The population includes Pahari-speaking communities, Gujjars and Bakarwals, alongside speakers of Gojri, Dogri and other languages. Muslim, Hindu and Sikh traditions contribute to local cultural life. Agriculture, livestock rearing, trade, public employment and small businesses support livelihoods. Seasonal pastoral migration remains important for some families. Rajouri’s historic sites and the Mughal Road corridor near Thanamandi connect the area with the region’s wider heritage.
Common civic concerns include reliable roads, healthcare, education, drinking water, electricity and employment opportunities. Residents in remote and border areas also face concerns around security, emergency access and disruptions to daily life. Managing forests, grazing resources and development is another local priority.
