Peren is a district in southwestern Nagaland, India, bordering Assam and Manipur. Its administrative headquarters is Peren, and Jalukie is another important town. Known for forested hills, river valleys and farming landscapes, the district includes part of Intanki National Park, an important wildlife habitat.
The population includes Zeliang communities, notably Zeme and Liangmai, alongside Kuki and other communities. Village institutions, churches, festivals, weaving and oral traditions shape local cultural life. Agriculture supports many households, with rice and other crops grown in both hill and valley settings. Local markets, small businesses and public services also contribute to the economy.
Common civic concerns include dependable roads, transport links, drinking water, electricity and access to healthcare and education, particularly in remote villages. Residents also care about farming support, employment opportunities for young people, land and customary rights, and effective local administration. Forest conservation and wildlife protection must be balanced with livelihoods and infrastructure needs.
