Panipat (पानीपत) is a district in Haryana, India, north of Delhi along the main road and rail corridor towards Chandigarh. Its administrative headquarters is Panipat city. The district is best known for the three Battles of Panipat, which shaped major turning points in Indian history, and for its textile industry.
Hindi and Haryanvi are widely spoken, and local life combines urban trading communities with agricultural villages. Weaving, textile recycling, carpets, blankets and home furnishings support the economy, alongside farming and oil refining. Notable heritage sites include Kabuli Bagh Mosque, the tomb of Ibrahim Lodi and the shrine of Bu Ali Shah Qalandar.
Common civic concerns include air and water pollution, industrial waste, drainage, road maintenance and traffic congestion. Residents also care about reliable drinking water, sanitation, healthcare and schooling. Employment conditions in textile workshops, support for small businesses, and access to services in growing neighbourhoods and villages are important local issues.
